Jeez

New Light Year, ridiculously different from their previous stuff, ridiculously good. A cheeky groover from the Eats Everything essential mix, F.A.Q. proves it's possible to remix Gramtik and Drop Out Orchestra dun good again this time with a rework of  classic 'mary mary - shackles'

Hello We Are: The 2 Bears

London-based outfit Joe (of Hot Chip fame) & Raf have been producing together since 2009. 2 Bears was the brain child of a friend of theirs who decided they should start a duo. 3 years later sees them with numerous EPs, an album, an Annie Mac mini mix and and essential mix under their belts.

Life is honey sweet.

Their first recorded track together 'Be Strong' had flavours of the Mylo classic 'Destroy Rock & Roll', paying respect to legends of the game 'The 2 Bears would like to give lots of musical love to all nice and decent people ...Wu Tang Clan, Steely Dan, The KLF, Todd Tejre..'

The bears went on to release several EPs before enjoying their greatest success last year with the infectious 'Bear Hug'. Time to reminisce.

Their debut album was released on Monday and is already being hailed by many in the industry as one of the albums of the year.

With tunes such as personal favourite of mine 'Get Together' it's hard to disagree. The dreamy 'Get Together' draws from classic synthpop tune Smalltown Boy by Bronski Beat and then like the rest of the album is injected with an irresistible concoction of 'pop-hip-house', 'liquid-bore-house-step' and 'rave-garage'. Stream the whole album below and make it the soundtrack to your summer if you know what's good for you.

2012

What does the new year hold in store for our ears?

Mechanical dubstep sounds will continue to permeate popular music. Expect female vocalists collabing with the likes of Skrillex, Skream, Benga. Furthermore drum & bass looks set to have a big year with the likes of DJ Fresh and High Contrast catering their melodic tracks to a mass audience. Pause for plug

On the underground side of things 2011 saw deep house brought to the fore. 2012 should see a continuation of this with the likes of Hot Creations and Crosstown Rebels pioneering the genre. Expect to see these guys on festival lineups this summer.

Danny Daze & Young Edits - Million by Danny Daze

As has been the trend over the past few years, hybrid genres will continue to sprout up faster than you can keep up with. Deep house sounds could spawn other sounds such as a disco/funk revival and a plethora of 80's/90's R&B samples (track above in mind). UK Bass mixed with tech and other forms of house/techno through the likes of Julio Bashmore, Eats Everything & Blawan look set to thrive this year.

It would also be nice to see UK garage make some movements (with the 2011 success of Mosca, Zed Bias & Mike Delinquent in mind).

One's to watch

1. Breach/Ben Westbeech (huge talent, making waves over and underground)

DJ Cra$y - I Need You (BrEaCh Mix) by BrEaCh

2. Switch (recently split from Major Lazer to work on solo material)

Download Switch What Did She Say

3. T.E.E.D (horribly underrated, deserves to make it big this year)
